Compressed Progressive Meshes

چکیده
ÐMost systems that support visual interaction with 3D models use shape representations based on triangle meshes. The size of these representations imposes limits on applications for which complex 3D models must be accessed remotely. Techniques for simplifying and compressing 3D models reduce the transmission time. Multiresolution formats provide quick access to a crude model and then refine it progressively. Unfortunately, compared to the best nonprogressive compression methods, previously proposed progressive refinement techniques impose a significant overhead when the full resolution model must be downloaded. The CPM (Compressed Progressive Meshes) approach proposed here eliminates this overhead. It uses a new technique, which refines the topology of the mesh in batches, which each increase the number of vertices by up to 50 percent. Less than an amortized total of 4 bits per triangle encode where and how the topological refinements should be applied. We estimate the position of new vertices from the positions of their topological neighbors in the less refined mesh using a new estimator that leads to representations of vertex coordinates that are 50 percent more compact than previously reported progressive geometry compression techniques. An Adaptive Framework for Static 3D Model with On-Demand Protocol
At present, we design a framework for streaming of 3D static model with rate adaptation techniques called TCP-Friendly Rate Adaptation. The 3D model in our framework is compressed with progressive meshes method [Hoppe96]. Exploited the dependency from progressive meshes, we transmit 3D model progressively.

Polyhedral models, which are used in most graphics applications, require considerable amounts of storage, even when they only approximate precise shapes with limited accuracy. To support internet access to 3D models of complex virtual environments or assemblies for electronic shopping, collaborative CAD, multi-player video games, scientific visualization, representations of 3D shapes must be co...
متن کاملSmart Decision Module for Streaming 3D Meshes over Lossy Networks
This paper describes a smart decision module for transmitting 3D meshes over QoS networks. Any 3D multiresolution compression techniques assume no loss during the transmission. Reliable transport protocol such as TCP seems to be an excellent solution. However, time sensive applications find TCP suffering long delay in the presence of network congestion. This motives to use unreliable transport ...
متن کاملMobile 3D graphics compression for progressive transmission
With the evolution of mobile communication networks, three-dimensional graphics applications and services are fast developing fields in mobile graphics and wireless networks. While the data size of 3D meshes is increasing, the available bandwidth of wireless networks and the weak resources of mobile devices have become relatively limited. The transmission of graphics multimedia over wireless ne...
